Neema Mbonela

Neema Mbonela (she/her) is the Consulting Director of Learning & Development Partnerships, primarily focusing on the support mechanisms for staff in NYC Public Schools Office of Students in Temporary Housing (STH). Her mandate involves establishing a foundational infrastructure for the team, enhancing the staff's ability to assist STH students and their families. In her role, she creates resources, refines staff development methods, and steers continuous project improvements. Neema is also the founder of Utu Consulting, offering human resources solutions to mission-driven organizations. Influenced by the Swahili principle of 'Utu,' Neema integrates this concept of shared human connection with modern organizational research and metrics to support thriving workplaces.
Over her 15-year HR career, Neema has championed organizational development and enhanced HR practices. Her roles include Director of Talent at the Center for Reproductive Rights and HR Manager at the Surdna Foundation, among positions at Schrödinger. Neema holds a BA from Fordham University and an MBA from Goldey-Beacom College. She is currently studying Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Montclair State University, where she's also delved into Industrial/Organizational Psychology. Neema's affiliations encompass memberships in the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM), the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP), and the American Counseling Association (ACA). Additionally, she volunteers with New Women New Yorkers, supporting immigrant women in NYC with career coaching.
